Today was the official start of our underground railroad tour. We woke up around 4 o'clock but didnt leave until around 7. The ride was long but with the help of ipods it wasn't too bad.

We got to Blountsville around 5:30. We were greeted by a very generous, and eco friendly couple. They are some of the nicest people I have ever met.  When we got to the land that the Quakers own our cell phone reception was lost and we were forced to enjoy the outdoors.

Some members went swimming in the lake, and others just enjoyed the beautiful weather. One thing I really liked about coming here is that before dinner we all joined hands and began chanting yummm. Its there way of saying grace. I thought that was different, unique and refreshing.

On the first day we have already been exposed to people with different religous views and backgrounds. Im sure we will meet more people like them on our long journey. I'm looking forward to learning more about diverse cultures and communities.
