Kyvon, July 5-6 UGRR Freedom Center & YMCA Hilliard,OH

July 5-6, Kyvon- Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Cincinnati, OH

We woke up and Jim made us homemade blueberry pancakes for breakfast. We also had fruit and juice. It was a really good breakfast. We then headed to the Underground Railroad National Freedom Center in Cincinnati, we stayed there for about three hours and learned some more information about the trip that we're on, we were even able to incorporate where we have been so far to what we saw in the museum. Some of what we saw was overwhelming like the Slave Pen and looking at names of enslaved people. The Slave Pen came from the town of Maysville where we had stayed. We all walked around together and some of us seperately. The modern day slavery exhibit was especially hard because it was about modern day slavery. There are many people around the world that face this sort of terrible treatment daily. The adults on this trip have told us it is important to pay attention to our history because it can repeat itself. I think this is what they were talking about.

When we were done, we went back to say goodbye to Jim and Susan and we moved onto the next spot. Because we had spent so much time at the museum we did not ride our bikes and instead drove to Yellow Springs, OH. This was the town where we would stay the night. It was a neat town, artsy. We had our dinner prepared by Cheryl and her husband, they were our quaker host for the night. We watched a play rehearsal by some local kids, then seperated and went to different homes for the night. This was the first night we weren't together. Houston and I stayed with Ms. Keen.

July 6. We all met at a local coffee shop and got our bikes ready. We cycled from Yellow Springs to Hilliard following an old railroad route that had been turned into a bike path. It was cool because it was the first day we cycled without having cars next to us. In Hillard we got to the YMCA, and that's where we were staying for the night. Everyone at this YMCA was really nice. especially Steve, who made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Suepinda picked up Rich in Columbus. We were all glad to see him. Suepinda and Rich brought back Subway sandwiches. We played a little basketball and went to bed pretty early.
